Denmark's Collection - small country, big heart

Millions of innocent children in the world's poorest countries are starving. Desperation grows day by day. It is unbearable to witness, but if we close our eyes, the consequences can be fatal - that's why we support.

Help the world's hungry children

The causes of the world hunger disaster are complex. In the Horn of Africa, the worst drought in 40 years is raging. In several places, climate change threatens floods and cyclones. Families who already live in extreme poverty have lost their livelihoods. Many are forced to flee. Now they have nothing. Anchor

The global food crisis has worsened the situation and made it difficult for the most vulnerable families to provide food for their children. If the children are fed at all, they are not getting the food they need. Both will cost lives. Right now, 13.6 million children under the age of five are so hungry that they are in acute danger of dying.

The consequences are so severe that the poorest part of the world will be affected for decades. Fortunately, there is much we can do to help if we stand together. This is what this year's Danish Collection is all about.

With targeted efforts in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Somalia, Somaliland, South Sudan and Uganda, Denmark's 12 largest humanitarian organizations help where the need is catastrophic. In collaboration with strong local forces, we distribute nutritious food and ensure access to clean drinking water, but also to better sanitation and hygiene, which counteracts disease outbreaks. We provide access to basic health services and to acute, life-saving treatment. We are introducing new crops and new cultivation methods that are more climate resistant. And we support with education and knowledge, which strengthen the possibilities of creating a future without malnutrition and hunger.

We know it makes a difference. But we also know that we cannot do it alone. That is why we are calling on the whole of Denmark, so that we can show that we are a small country with a big heart. You can help too, and your contribution will bring hope and change, no matter how big or small.

Join us when the whole of Denmark collects for the world's hungry children on Saturday 3 February on DR1 at 19.00.
